- ○ The Composer "Masao Koga"
- Masao Koga, one of the leading Showa composers, was born on November 18, 1904 in Taguchi Mitsumaru, Mizuma-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture (currently Okawa city). In 1923, a student at Meiji University, he founded the Meiji University Mandolin Club. After composing "I've lived for your shadow", and releasing it in 1931 from Columbia Records, he continued his career as a composer for 50 years, and dedicated himself to the development of the music industry and the nurturing of young singers. He composed numerous hit songs, such as "I've lived for your shadow", "Sake with tears and sighs", "Tokyo Rhapsody" and "Over the hill". It is said that throughout his lifetime as a composer (before he died in July 1978), he composed around 4,000 to 5,000 songs. Strumming the heartstrings of the Japanese people, the so-called "Koga Melody" has a tinge of melancholy, but amid the sadness and loneliness describes the strength and resilience of people who live in hope for tomorrow. They say that "Popular songs change with the times and the times change with popular songs". "Koga Melody" is both a mirror that reflects the Showa era and a timeless lifesong that will be inherited throughout the ages.

- Koga's compositions reach 4,000 to 5,000 songs, of which the songs that everyone recognizes as the "Koga Melody" are but a small part. Some say that "loneliness" and "sadness" are major elements of the Koga Melody, but "happiness" envelops them in an unmistakable flavor. As a result, the songs never feel dark although they are toned with pathos. This stunning harmony creating a unique and elegant melody touches the heartstrings of the Japanese people.
